EU Calls on Tech Experts for AI Regulation
AI Office Seeks Input for Upcoming AI Rulebook
Representatives from EU Member States to Form AI Board
The AI Office, an arm of the European Commission, has called on tech companies, experts, and activists to collaborate on developing regulations for artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative aims to create a comprehensive AI rulebook that will ensure the responsible and ethical use of AI technologies within the European Union.
The upcoming AI rulebook will establish different requirements for AI systems based on their risk level. Low-risk AI systems will be subject to transparency rules, while high-risk systems, such as those used in critical infrastructure or law enforcement, will face stricter requirements, including mandatory conformity assessments and human oversight.
The AI Office will also establish an AI Board, comprising representatives from EU member states. The AI Board will provide advice and assistance to the Commission on the consistent and effective application of the AI rulebook across the EU.
