Simple Minds band member Kenny Hyslop has died at the age of 73, the band has confirmed.

Hyslop was a founding member of the Scottish new wave band, which rose to fame in the 1980s with hits such as "Don't You (Forget About Me)" and "Alive and Kicking."

In a statement, Simple Minds said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear friend and bandmate, Kenny Hyslop.

Kenny Hyslop was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1947.

He began playing guitar at a young age and formed his first band, the Rebels, in the early 1960s.

In 1975, Hyslop joined Simple Minds, which was then known as Johnny and the Self Abusers.
